Artist Q&A…

Where are you from?

I was born in Miami, Florida and moved to Connecticut when I was 8 years old. I lived in CT all the way up until I went to college. I attended American University in Washington, DC where I received my Bachelor’s degree in International Studies. After college, I moved to Gaithersburg, Maryland and I now run E.K.Woodburning.

What is your favorite type of design to woodburn?

I don’t have a true favorite, but two of my favorites are pet portraits and anime designs. I love pet portraits because I love the challenge of fur. I find fur to be one of the hardest things to burn because of its intricacy, but I love the challenge.

I also love anime designs because I enjoy the outline aspect of the design and the harsh shading.

When did you start woodburning and why?

I started woodburning in late 2019. I have been artistic my whole life and once I graduated college in May 2019, I wanted a hobby to fill my time. I picked up a cheap woodburner just to try it and I fell in love with it. I practiced, practiced, practiced, and eventually refined my skills enough to share my passion with others and sell my pieces.

What is your favorite thing about woodburning?

My favorite thing about woodburning is the relaxing nature about the art form. When I start woodburning, the world around me goes quiet and I get in my zone.
